Cultivating Authenticity, Creativity, and Purpose

You’ve done well for yourself in life…

The basics are covered. You generally can’t complain.

Yet… something feels like it’s… MISSING.

Caught up in the routine and grind of modern living, there are parts of yourself that have somehow gotten left behind.

Whatever happened to all the creative projects and practices you used to revel in when you were younger?

Why is it so hard to show up fully and authentically in your partnership, with family, and at work?

Where is your sense of PURPOSE on a day-to-day basis?

You’re grateful for your good fortune, but…

You crave a deeper sense of meaning in your life.

You yearn to align your actions with your true values and gifts.

You pine to unlock the creative playfulness you enjoy so much.

But there’s this pent-up energy – a tension…

And when you look closely at what’s holding it all in, you realize those walls are built from all sorts of fears and doubts:

The fear of being seen…

What if no one likes what I create? What if I’m not any good? I don’t want to be judged.

The doubts about your abilities…

What if I fail? Am I just going to destroy everything stable and working in my life if I go for this crazy dream? I don’t want to ruin everything.

The fear of being rejected…

What if people don’t like who I am? If I am fully authentic, maybe people will turn away. I don’t want to be alone.

The doubts about your true life path…

What am I doing here anyway? Do my actions build a better world, or am I just going along with dysfunctional systems? I don’t know if I really have any unique gifts to offer.

You are not alone in these cravings, doubts, and fears…

It is scary to imagine what might happen if you embark on this journey. But what’s even scarier is to imagine what might happen if you don’t.

What precious time might be wasted in this same-ol’ same-ol’ routine?

What great joys of the human experience might you miss?

Anyone who chooses to undertake the quest of self-actualization must find their way through the wild woods.

And that means overcoming obstacles and battling demons.

You’ll need to vanquish stubborn old messages about what “success” means, wade through swamps of self-doubt and questioning, conquer fears of failure and rejection, and conjure up just the right mixture of bravery, trust, grit, and gumption.

You will need all your strength of heart within you and a solid team beside you.

This is where I come in!

I believe that with a strong connection to your body and desires, a mindset of fierce optimism, and a pocket full of creative, somatic tools, you’ll be able to forge your victorious path.

I remember going to visit a guidance counselor…

I was coming to the end of my undergraduate studies, and I wanted to talk about “what’s next.”

She asked me about my career direction, and I spoke about academics and going into education… maybe becoming a professor someday. She then asked what I did for fun, to which I responded by talking about how much art, music, and dance made me come alive.

Naturally, she asked me how these activities would be expressed as an academic professor. “Not that they can’t be,” she said, “but I have talked to so many people later in life who are ACHING because they allowed that creative side of them slip away.”

To this day, I feel such gratitude for those simple words that have stuck with me over the years. Those words have guided me during many of my life’s fork-in-the-road moments.

I have felt the deep vulnerability…

… that comes with being an artist, dancer, group leader, entrepreneur, therapist, and business owner.

These endeavors require you to wear your heart on your sleeve more than people realize!

I have felt the risk that comes with quitting that job, enrolling in that course, putting money into that new business, and having that conversation with my partner about what I REALLY want.

And I have felt the expansion, relief, satisfaction, and joy to be found on the other side!

The only way out is through!

Somatic and Dance/Movement Therapy techniques are designed to connect you deeply to your body, help you move through places of stuckness and challenges, and expand into your full self-expression.

By practicing present moment awareness of your body sensations, emotions, and physical responses, you can move away from the limiting messages you’ve learned in the past and focus instead on what you really feel, think, love, and value. These body messages are like the raw data of the self, and from that information, we can map out what is truly important to you and what you want to pursue in life!

By engaging in movement and artistic expression, you can explore fears, insecurities, doubts, and other blocks holding you back. You create more space for spontaneity, creativity, and change when you air out these heavy parts.

It’s time to build a life that you truly love…

… through embodiment, movement, and honest self-inquiry, we can unearth your authentic values, passions, and purpose.

Fears drive many people away from their creative dreams (often and all too easily), but they don’t have to. I invite you to see them as a sign of your inner calling, pushing you to reach deeper into yourself than ever before and pull out your hidden inner gems!
